who we are

Leadership Heights

Leaders are not born, they are made and Scouts will take their leadership to new heights with the launch of Leadership Heights at the Boy Scouts of America’s 2023 National Jamboree.

Leadership Heights will be an experience that’s never been seen before in Scouting and will help propel all of the Scouts that participate in it to be better leaders in their units, community, nation and world.

About the National Jamboree

The BSA National Jamboree is a gathering, or jamboree, of thousands of members of the Boy Scouts of America, usually held every four years and organized by the National Council of the Boy Scouts of America. Referred to as “the Jamboree”, “Jambo”, or NSJ, Scouts from all over the nation and world have the opportunity to attend.

They are considered to be one of several unique experiences that the Boy Scouts of America offers. The first jamboree was scheduled to be held in 1935 in Washington, D.C. to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Scouting, but was delayed two years after being cancelled due to a polio outbreak. Today, the National Jamboree is held at the Summit Bechtel Reserve, in West Virginia.

About Leadership Heights

Leadership Heights helps Scouts take their leadership to all-new heights! This half-day, unit scheduled program has four components: Launch, Experiences, Speaker Series and Elevate. After gathering in Action Point and then hiking to the J.W. Marriott, Jr. Leadership Center, Scouts will engage in a series of interactive experiences that test their leadership, communication, and team-building skills. Compelling speakers who are prominent leaders from different industries, nonprofits, universities, and the military will help shape a Scout’s understanding and appreciation for leading and leadership. The experience is topped off by Elevate, an immersive experience that will challenge Scouts and ask for their commitment to lead our world ‘forward'.

See how we’re

Shaping future leaders

Leadership Heights is an experience in four parts. During the launch process, scouts will check-in, take a leadership self-assessment that will help them to assess their current leadership skills and will learn more about the Leadership Heights experience. Next, scouts will begin their 25-30 minute hike to J.W. Marriott, Jr. Leadership Center. On the way, the scouts will participate in activities that will enable them get to know each other and learn more about Leadership Heights.

Experiences

When the scouts get to the top of the hill, that’s where the fun really begins! The core of Leadership Heights is the leadership experiences, a series of interactive experiences that test their leadership, communication, and team-building skills.

Speaker Series

Another important element of Leadership Heights is our engaging speaker series that will give scouts the opportunity to hear from prominent leaders from different industries, nonprofits, universities and the military.

Elevate

Finally, it’s time to reflect and commit. An interactive show will ask scouts to commit to furthering their leadership journey and contributing to their local, national, and global communities. Scouts will leave Leadership Heights committed to a future goal, and we’ll showcase those goals throughout the Jamboree and beyond.
