Dan McCarthy completed a 38 year career in the United States Navy in 2007. Retiring as a Vice Admiral, his final assignment was as Deputy Chief of Naval Operations, Fleet Readiness and Logistics in the Pentagon where he was responsible for Navy-wide policy, programming, and resourcing for fleet readiness, logistics, strategic sealift, Navy installations and environmental programs.
Dan holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from Oakland University and a Master of Science in Management from the Naval Postgraduate School, where he graduated with distinction. He also holds a Presidential Honorary degree from West Virginia University.
Following his retirement from military service, Dan established Silver Eagle Consulting, a firm dedicated to providing business and leadership consulting support to both public and private sector organizations. During this period, Dan acted as a Visiting Lecturer at the graduate business schools of the University of Virginia, University of North Carolina and the Naval Postgraduate Schools.
A lifelong Scouter leader, Dan became the Group Director of the Boy Scouts of America’s Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve in April 2012 where he oversaw final construction and program development for the 14,000 acre recreational facility.
Retiring in March of 2017, Dan continues to be involved in various Scouting capacities including as Assistant Council Commissioner for West Virginia’s Buckskin Council. He is a Board member of the West Virginia Humanities Council and serves as an Advisory Council Member within the John Chambers College of Business and Economics.
Dan is married to Carol Ann McCarthy, also an avid Scouter, and has three Eagle Scout sons.
